How Porcelain Veneers Are Applied

The first step is to determine the smile design, and you're the one that has to choose this. Dr. Forth or Dr. Bender will sit down with you and show you their library of before and after photographs, of patients like you that have had new smiles. This can help you determine the smile style that you want. Do you want to look younger, or do you prefer the more mature, sophisticated look? How white do you want them to be? The answers to these questions are very personal and will vary from patient to patient. And Dr. Forth and Dr. Bender will know how to create the look that you want.

After you have made these decisions, your preferences will be translated into a wax model. Dr. Forth and Dr. Bender will then make any changes to this model, until it perfectly meets your expectations. The final result will be matched to this wax-up.

Usually a little shaving of the teeth is required. Many people have the misconception that teeth need to be "ground down" for porcelain veneers. The amount that is shaved is very small. The photograph above of a prepared tooth gives you an idea of how little has to be reduced. This shaving allows the finished porcelain veneers to meet the existing tooth structure at a perfectly smooth margin, so that it is almost undetectable.
